I'm using that same cable on this new Retina MacBook Pro, which has a Thunderbolt output. My previous laptop had a mini displayport output, which I used a miniDP to DP cable with.

I wonder if the other users above were experiencing the same problem, as they were also on OS X/Macs, not Windows/PCs. ColorMunki Display can compensate for this effect and provide the option to automatically adjust your profile or simply notify you as ambient light conditions change. I'll troubleshoot this again tomorrow & report back. I just know that previously, on my older MacBook Pro, my Dell U2711 received a RGB signal. Perhaps that's where things are going wrong.
